QUEENSLAND GROWERS ARE PARTICULARLY PREVALENT TO CLIMATE VARIABILITY AND DISASTERS THAT IMPACT THEIR VIABILITY.

It is predicted that Queensland’s future climate will mean farming enterprises will be increasingly exposed to the impacts of natural hazards and weather events on their viability. QFVG supports initiatives and research that engages all supply chain members to collectively address emerging climate risks and improve predictions and preparedness for these risks.

Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers advocates for:

  • Disaster arrangements to be extended to replanting. QFVG is not advocating for crop compensation rather the provider of the crop – the tree.  Graziers are able to purchase cattle to restock however horticulture growers are unable to purchase tree stock to replant (are only able to redevelop production lands ready for planting).

  • Funding for Climate Adaptation & Low Emissions – growers need access to tools and assistance to understand, implement strategies and manage on farm / supply chain emissions to then develop and implement emission reduction strategies.
