Economic Contribution of Horticulture Report

Queensland’s horticulture industry is more than a major contributor to the State’s economy - it’s the heartbeat of many regional communities.

Commissioned by Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG) and prepared by Queensland Economic Advocacy Solutions (QEAS), the new Economic Contribution of Horticulture 2024-25 report provides an in-depth look at the industry’s economic, social, and environmental impact across the State.

The report highlights horticulture’s substantial contribution to Gross State Product (GSP), employment, and regional development, as well as the broader community benefits driven by the “velocity of the horticulture dollar” - the way money generated by growers continues to circulate and strengthen local economies.

Despite ongoing challenges such as input costs and workforce shortages, the sector continues to lead the nation in innovation, sustainability, and ethical employment. Queensland growers are investing in advanced technology, environmental stewardship, and fair work practices - reinforcing horticulture’s vital role in food security, regional resilience, and the State’s economic prosperity.
