Agronomy assistance for growers
Growers operating within the Great Barrier Reef catchment area are encouraged to apply for up to $1,000 of on-farm agronomy support currently available through QFVG’s Great Barrier Reef Project.
The Agronomy Package is intended to support growers to obtain independent advice to assist them in tackling an issue that may be contributing to losses of nutrients, sediment or run-off.
What can the Agronomy Package cover?
Growers can use the package for one or more of the following services:
nutrient management planning - to match fertiliser program with crop demand
interpretation of soil and/or leaf test results - translating data one-on-one
review of fertiliser programs (rates, timing and placement)
erosion and runoff risk assessment
re-design drainage pathways to slow water movement and minimise soil loss
irrigation assessment.
Why get involved?
Fine-tuning fertiliser timing, improving irrigation scheduling, or improving groundcover makes good business sense, and can achieve the following:
Reduce nutrient and soil losses during heavy rainfall events
Improve water-use efficiency
Reduce input costs over time
Protect waterways from pollutants
This package is about getting bespoke on-farm advice for practical improvements to how you’re managing nutrient, irrigation and ground cover.
How to get started
To participate, growers simply need to benchmark practices using QFVG’s Hort360 Platform and apply. Benchmarking helps identify what’s already working well and which areas need improvement. It also ensures agronomy support is targeted to where it will deliver the greatest benefit.
