A predictable and affordable water supply is essential to a growing horticultural industry. It’s essential for securing regional jobs and attracting investment to Queensland. 

Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers advocates for affordable, reliable and accessible irrigation water:

• $24 million over 4 years to deliver on-farm water efficiency support for farmers and extension of the irrigation discount. 

• The transparency of methodology used to prioritise infrastructure in one region over another is of paramount importance due to water’s capacity to completely change the economic landscape of local communities and gives growers a competitive advantage. 

• Stakeholder consultation in the development of the water policy and pricing mechanisms. 

• Maintaining and prioritising existing users water rights before new user rights are granted.  

• Delivery of generational water infrastructure across Queensland that will secure supply and foster economic growth.  

• Development of a water security plan for the entire State with a focus on affordability for the end user. This water initiative must not infringe on existing sound water management principles.
